MPLS-based Ethernet Equipment for Service Provider Networks
The economics of Ethernet promise to change the way telecom carriers deliver wide area network services to customers.
This all comes at a time when carriers are looking to maintain the margins they make from these network services. Basic connectivity will not be enough – carriers need to take advantage of the "upsell" of multiple networking services on top of Ethernet.
As with all new network services, there are many critical questions that network service providers, and Ethernet network equipment vendors need to answer:
- What are the network applications that will drive the deployment of Ethernet?
- What are the best network platforms, protocol set, and underlying infrastructure to support these network applications?
- How will Ethernet network services be provisioned and maintained to deliver rock-solid SLAs (service level agreements)?
- What are customer perceptions about the security of Ethernet networking services over a shared infrastructure?
- How do customers expect the service provider to handle resilience?
