New York, New York - Elluminate, Inc., a provider of live eLearning and Web conferencing solutions for real-time enterprises, announced that New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and New York State (NYS) Teacher Centers have implemented Elluminate Live! Academic Edition(TM) to provide improved communication, real-time interaction, and enhanced collaboration for students, instructors and staff.

New York Institute of Technology is using the Internet-based, tool to improve communications between students and instructors, offer more ways to engage students in the learning process, and provide high-quality mentoring services in its commuter environment. At the same time, New York State  Teacher Centers will use Elluminate Live! to mentor center directors, support student services for testing and college preparatory courses, and complement existing video conferencing capabilities.

Professor Stan Silverman, Director of the Technology-Based Learning Systems Department at NYIT and Technology Chair for NYS Teacher Centers, believes Elluminate is a great breakthrough. "Elluminate Live! is transparent, malleable, and multi-purpose allowing us to fit the intent of each teaching session," he said. "I believe Elluminate Live! will generate hundreds of ideas that we can't even envision now, feeding the creative spark that today's teachers share."

The New York Institute of Technology was recognized for excellence by U.S. News & World Report.  It  is the college of choice for 12,000 students currently enrolled in more than 100 courses of study leading to undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees from eight schools, including engineering, architecture, business, communication arts and medicine.

NYIT is a private, independent college.  NYIT embraces an educational philosophy of career-oriented, professional education for all qualified students, and supports applications-oriented research to benefit the greater global community.  Students attend classes at NYIT's three physical campuses, including Old Westbury and Central Islip on Long Island, and Manhattan, near Lincoln Center, as well as online and in a number of special programs throughout the world.

Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers were established by the New York State Legislature in 1984 to provide systematic, ongoing professional education to the state's teachers. The initial appropriation of $3.5 million established 44 Teacher Centers throughout the state. The 2002-2003 allocation of $31 million supports 427 centers, which serve some 660 public school districts as well as hundreds of non-public schools across all regions of the state. More than 239,000 educators have access to Teacher Center services. The benefits they derive are passed on in the form of improved education for some 2,500,000 students across New York State.
