This story, courtesy of the Sun Journal in New Bern, NC, gives a great case study on the uses of distance learning technology in the USA primary education system. One of the interesting angles of the story is that the teachers and administrators were more comfortable with the methods and technology than the students were.
Distance learning, and frankly all things Internet, seem to have the paradigm just the other way around - the young teaching the old(er).
Moreover, it allowed 9 students in a nearby school to study the German language, where they would not have been able to, due to a teacher shortage, without the use of the distance learning technology.
As stated near the end of the article: this is the wave of the future of education.
It's about time!
