POMPANO BEACH, Fla.- Elluminate, Inc., a provider of live eLearning and Web conferencing solutions for education, announced that Chinook's Edge School Division (CESD) No. 73 in Alberta, Canada, will implement Elluminate Live! Academic Edition(TM) on the Sun Microsystems platform. CESD will use Elluminate Live! to deliver synchronous content to students throughout its geographically diverse district. This effort is part of a pilot project in which the Government of Alberta is investigating how Sun Ray(TM) thin client desktop systems can be used to support the learning activities of elementary students.Originally deployed on PC and Macintosh computers, Elluminate Live! enables CESD to share applications in an increasingly multi-platform environment, integrating live eLearning into its core curriculum. CESD will also use Elluminate Live! for instructor meetings and professional development opportunities that were previously prohibited because of driving distance. In addition, CESD used Elluminate Live! as an interactive meeting environment to facilitate troubleshooting during the Sun hardware deployment. In the future, CESD will expand its Elluminate/Sun implementation to a selected secondary school and community college, with the ultimate goal of developing a multi-campus facility.

"We selected Elluminate Live! because we are always looking for multi-platform tools to support the kind of learning we do at Chinook's Edge," said Janne Edney, Coordinator of Technology Integration for the division. "We like to provide relevant, meaningful elearning that reaches beyond school walls into the world. This helps students connect with experts in a discipline they are studying as well as with those who can provide multiple perspectives on an issue. Elluminate Live! enables us to do this."

"Sun's network computing solutions are helping schools build a Digital Campus that seamlessly connects students, teachers, and administration and provides the ideal platform for eLearning programs," said Kim Jones vice president of Global Education and Research for Sun Microsystems. "The Digital Campus is about the integration of key technologies - from portals to digital libraries to student information systems - in to a unified network environment that allows education institutions like Chinook to reach out to students beyond the physical classroom and provide a high-quality interactive learning experience."

Chinook's Edge School Division (CESD) No. 73 provides educational services to approximately 11,000 students in 38 schools, covering an area of 7,900 square kilometers (3075 square miles). Identified as one of the top four performing school jurisdictions by the Society for Advancement of Excellence in Education, CESD's mission is to provide students with the opportunity to obtain the academic, personal, and teamwork skills necessary for life-long learning.
