Continuing the trend of the European Union trying to overtake America in any competitive market, the EU is holding a conference on eLearning, information and communications technology (ICT) in the classroom in Brussels on May 19-20, 2005.The "Lisbon Agenda" as it's known is attempting to propel the EU into the world's most competitive knowledge-based economy by the year 2010. The forum and conference are designed to bring together experts, consultants, educators and government executives to make sure that technology and it's application in the eLearning arena are moving forward fast enough to meet it's educational and competitive goals.
It is well known that EU member countries and the EU itself are behind the 8 ball, so to speak, on the use and implementation of information technology, and is far behind America in the education, elearning and classroom adoption of technology.
EU government controls over the Internet, taxation and the largely socialist governments have inhibited technology implementation on a scale that America achieves due to it's capitalistic society. America has achieved leadership in nearly all areas of technology due to it's private sector investments, entrepreneurial opportunity and modest comparable tax structure.
The EU conference will be used to take an 'inventory' of itself in the ICT markets, and to establish benchmarks and goals in an effort to achieve leadership in education, enterprise, employment, social, research, policy, institutional and industry in the elearning and knowledge markets.
We wish the EU, it's member countries and citizens good luck with this initiative. While trainerslink.com is located in America and is a patriotic and loyal United States enterprise, we hope the bureaucrats of the EU can see past their tax revenues and enable their citizens to be incented to take action on this initiative themselves. Innovation has never grown out of government and it's not going to start now.
