Santa Clara, CA. — WebEx Communications (Nasdaq: WEBX), a provider of on-demand web conferencing applications, launched the MediaTone developer program, a new program designed to accelerate the integration of real-time web collaboration capabilities into third party applications. The program provides the tools, resources and support developers need to integrate web conferencing and web meeting capabilities into enterprise applications, VoIP platforms and telephony offerings or develop new, customized applications to meet specific industry needs. MediaTone is an open, on-demand web conferencing platform designed to support web collaboration across multiple platforms, devices and computing architectures.

"The WebEx MediaTone platform enabled us to create a seamless connection between our two on-demand applications,” said Bob Jandro, president and CEO at Nsite. "By WebEx-enabling our business process automation service, Nsite helps customers improve the efficiency of approval and review processes and assignment tracking across the enterprise. The integration works with our Predictive Routing Engine technology and accelerates business processes by allowing customers to instantly connect with customers and colleagues."

“The MediaTone platform APIs made it easy to add one click WebEx meetings to the Jabber Messenger client,” said Rick Emery, vice president of Business Development for Jabber, Inc. “Users can now leverage Jabber presence to identify, connect and collaborate with the people they need to get their business done. The MediaTone developer program provided all the integration tools, documentation and resources to make our integration simple, seamless and trouble free.”

The MediaTone developer program leverages the enhancements made in the third generation of the WebEx MediaTone platform, the patented web conferencing technology that powers WebEx web meeting applications. The enhancements include standards-based platform APIs to connect WebEx applications to enterprise solutions including CRM, business process automation, supply chain management, learning management and audio and web conferencing.

According to WebEx, developers can use the APIs to schedule, start and end meetings; check availability and invite attendees; keep meeting details and minutes; generate reports on meeting activities and attendees; as well as record, catalog and file entire sessions for reference and reporting. When integrated with a CRM solution, WebEx accelerates sales cycles by allowing salespeople to schedule, launch and host an online sales presentation from within the customer profile, track the meeting information and automatically update the record.

“The MediaTone developer program will enable WebEx to vastly expand our developer network and grow the market for web conferencing applications,” said Bill Heil, president of WebEx Communications. “The new tools and open APIs make it easy to WebEx-enable enterprise applications, vertical market solutions, audio and web conferencing platforms to meet the needs of global customers.”

The MediaTone developer program expands the integration and market opportunities for WebEx and its network of developers. The program offers three levels of service:

1. WebEx Developer — A free, self-service program designed to allow small organizations and independent developers to start working with the WebEx MediaTone platform APIs. This program gives members all the platform information, updates and support they need to begin web conferencing integration.

2. Gold Developer Program — this is a premium service for enterprise application developers and portal providers to integrate WebEx applications or specific application capabilities to their own product offerings. The program is designed to help developers bring new products to market, including marketing and sales support from WebEx.

3. Platinum Developer Program — The premier program offers an exceptionally strong value proposition with a WebEx alliance manager, shared development, and joint marketing and referral programs. Membership at this level is by invitation only.

“We’re integrating WebEx meeting capabilities into our IP communications portfolio that we offer our enterprise customers,” said Alison Lawrence, head of portfolio, BT Conferencing. “This will further enhance the enterprise web conferencing services that we offer our customers.”

Participating developers will also gain access to the new WebEx Developer Connection, a useful extranet with resources to speed integration, development tools, expanded documentation and advice on common integration scenarios.
