Slippery Rock University recently acquired online training courses that are aimed at furthering the university's lifelong learning initiative. The University now offers a catalog featuring all available online training courses with extensive descriptions, along with information on cost and enrollment for the online training. The courses are available online 24 hours a day, which allows students to take a self-paced approach to learning by accessing the material at their own convenience. After purchasing a course, a student has up to 90 days to review the lessons and complete the exams.
Each course contains several individual lessons and provides extensive coverage of the course topic. Optional assessment tests are available to evaluate students' comprehension. Completion certificates are also given by SRU for those who qualify. A student must exhibit a certain level of proficiency in the necessary areas in order to receive recognition.
Some of the online training courses include computer software training in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and others. Courses such as performance management and presentation skills are also offered as a part of job skills enhancement.
The online training courses are available to anyone who is interested, which includes current Slippery Rock students as well as the general public. There are currently 88 courses available, with a total of 150 being offered by the end of 2006. The online training includes audio narration, interactive simulations, hands-on exercises, video clips, animation and graphics to enhance learning retention.
Slippery Rock University obtained a license for the online training courses through InfoSource, Inc., a company which provides education, corporate and government online training solutions. InfoSource, Inc. develops and supplies technology-related education, training, assessment and learning management services. Its products are designed to assist organizations in distributing training programs, while helping students develop skills necessary for the work industry.
