A radiologic technologist is an important member of today's health-care team.
The radiologic technologist uses a variety of equipment to provide images of patients' tissues, organs, bones, and blood vessels.
Traditional education methods are not always available to small or rural areas. Distance Learning may solve the problem. This fall, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor and collaboration between Linn-Benton Community College and Oregon Coast Community College, two qualified Lincoln County residents will be able to participate in an 18-month intensive, distance learning Radiology Technology Program.
At the end of the training program students receive a two-year certificate and an Associate of General Studies Degree. Students are then eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examinations.
The instruction will be offered largely via distance education with clinical preceptorships taking place at the local hospitals. Some travel to Linn-Benton Community College in Lebanon may be required.
A group of up to 18 students from throughout the state will move through this training as a cohort. Students will attend class for approximately 40 hours per week. The program will not follow the traditional college terms. The deadline for admission is mid-June. For additional information, contact Jane Hodgkins (Oregon Coast Community College) at 574-7124. |
