Web conferencing "power users" believe their companies will increase the use of web conferencing and also find new ways to use it over the next 18 months, according to the latest Wainhouse Research quarterly WebMetrics Panel. "This survey panel consists of power web conferencing users who already have multiple applications, such as teaming, e-Learning, and customer and sales presentations. This crowd clearly believes that internal growth has not topped out," said Alan Greenberg, a Senior Analyst and Partner at Wainhouse Research. "When we aggregate current and projected usage, we clearly see an optimistic panel that overall expects more people within their organizations to find new ways to use web conferencing," continued Greenberg.
Wainhouse Research's research panelists demonstrate confidence that the numbers of people using web conferencing within their organizations will increase by 47% over the next 18 months. Much like a consumer confidence survey, these results indicate optimism that usage will grow from 34% of the average organization's population today to 51% by fall 2007.
High confidence in security
The Wainhouse survey also showed that :
* 73% of respondents believe their web conferencing data is as or more secure than a PSTN telephone call. * 17% believe web conferencing data is less secure, but are not concerned about it as a major factor. * 10% believe web conferencing is less secure than a phone call and that security is a major concern.
Greenberg added, "It is telling that security is decidedly not a concern for the vast majority of the web conferencing community - including some IT and conferencing managers.
This band of users believes that the combination of web conferencing features (such as onscreen indicators, session keys, SSL encryption, and the like) and vendor assurances are sufficient to make web conferencing relatively secure in comparison to other forms of communication." |
